Tampon Tuesday® is a registered trademark of Bell Media. These initiatives are a unique way of bringing people together in a community to support people with periods. They profile the basic need for all individuals to have access to necessary period products and the challenges faced by many to obtain or purchase them. Over the past seven (7) years, the Canadian Labour Congress and United Way Centraide Canada have worked in partnership with Bell Media to use the Tampon Tuesday® trademark.
Since 2017, the Saskatoon & District Labour Council and United Way of Saskatoon and Area have organized Tampon Tuesday® initiatives in recognition of International Women’s Day (March 8th). The purpose is to raise awareness about the lack of access to necessary period products; the stigma and shaming surrounding menstruation; and at the same time, distributing period products to vulnerable individuals in our community. Individuals, unions, workplaces, and organizations are asked to support Tampon Tuesday® by organizing a collection drive or donating money which is used to purchase product.
As of August, 2023, a cumulative total of 21,299 packages of product (i.e. tampons, pads, liners, Diva Cups) have been distributed to 63 unique organizations, schools, groups, and events. An estimated (and conservative) value of the product distributed to date is about $104,000.
Thanks to the unions, locals, labour organizations, and union members who have generously supported Tampon Tuesday over the years. Your donations assist in meeting the increasing need for period products in our communities.
