United Way of Saskatoon and Area and the Saskatoon and District Labour Council (SDLC) held its 21st annual Labour Community Service Award Dinner on Friday, February 8, 2019. The Labour Community Service Award Dinner is an annual event held to recognize and honour a union member who has demonstrated outstanding service and dedication to our community through volunteer work

This year’s award recipient is Darcy Pederson, member of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 615. Darcy has been employed for 15 years as an operator – driver trainer for the City of Saskatoon’s Transit Department. His union involvement with the local also spans 15 years, volunteering in many capacities and roles within his local including currently serving as Secretary Treasurer for 3 terms. Darcy has volunteered with the Hollandia Soccer Club for the past 6 years coaching for both his son’s and daughter’s teams. He assists with many other duties including scorekeeping, field marshalling, uniform and equipment organizing and distribution, fundraising initiatives. He also volunteers at the local school by helping with classroom field trips, BBQs and other functions. He is always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. His co-workers describe Darcy as dedicated, reliable and resourceful.
