Labour Community Service Award 2017

Labour community service award 2017

The recipient of the 2017 Labour Community Service Award was Dianne Addley, member of Canadian Union of Postal Workers Local 824. Dianne is a leader, mentor and activist in both our Labour movement and in our community.

For over 30 years, she has been actively involved and engaged with her locals. Her union activism includes serving as her local’s Treasurer; sitting on Women’s Committees; serving on Occupational & Health Committees and facilitating at various labour schools.

She also finds the time to volunteer in her community. With the help of the local’s Women Committee, Dianne has spearheaded some type of collection drive and/or fundraiser around Christmas time for local community agencies. This past year “The Winter Solstice Purse Drive” was organized. Over 50 purses filled with feminine hygiene products, sanitizer and energy bars were collected and handed out to girls and women at Sharp Saskatoon and AIDS Saskatoon’s annual Christmas party. Last year, the Lighthouse clients benefitted with socks and underwear.

Dianne also volunteers hours and personal finances to the organization Helping Our Northern Neighbours and SARBI (The Saskatchewan Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured). In the past, she and her husband were foster parents.

Dianne is a leader in our community and in our labour movement. She inspires and motivates those around her to help build a healthy and inclusive community for everyone. Thank you Dianne for all you do!

The Labour Community Service Award is co-hosted annually by United Way of Saskatoon and Area and the Saskatoon and District Labour Council.
